Michael Lombardi makes his
way down East Avenue in
the trolley.
Taking a day to remember the fallen, Lockport's American Legion held several memorial ceremonies Sunday morning, followed by the annual Memorial Day Parade down East Avenue Sunday afternoon.

Small memorial ceremonies were held at St. Patrick's Cemetery, Glenwood Cemetery, Outwater Park, Ida Fritz Park, Grossi Park, Summit Park, Altro Park, and Veterans' Park, culminating in a grand ceremony at Cold Springs Cemetery at 11 a.m., complete with the Lockport High School Band.

Honorary Grand Marshall of the
parade, Edward M. Kolek enjoys the
ride down East Avenue.
Then at 1 p.m., dozens of military groups, police officers, firefighters, scouts, bands, and community service organizations marched from Veterans' Park to City Hall, waving at spectators and sharing their patriotism with the crowd.

Most of the parade units were from Lockport or the Lockport area, but as in recent years, a troupe came from Lockport's sister city in Thorold, Ontario.

Many people lingered downtown after the parade, taking in the tourist sights, grabbing a bite to eat or an ice cream.

There were a great number of fire trucks from area departments in the parade.

There's dozens more photos from Sunday's parade here.
