It's been a very rough season to be a Sabres fan. But it's been equally rough being a Sabre. The team lost five players this afternoon to injury in a losing effort against the Boston Bruins.
Goaltender Matt Hackett was taken off the ice on a stretcher in the second period. Hackett was set to play the remainder of the Sabres games due to the rest of the team's netminders being laid up with injuries of their own.
Hackett's injury brought in Connor Knapp, the team's sixth goaltender of the year. He was the ninth to dress for the 2013-2014 season, an NHL record.
Also injured in the game were Chris Stewart, Brian Flynn, Christian Ehrhoff , and Matt D’Agostini.
The Bruins scored first and often. Starting things off was Gregory Campbell with a tip in at 16:54 of the first period. About 90 seconds later, David Krejci made it 2-0 Boston.
Patrice Bergeron made it 3-0 Bruins with a slapshot at 11:43 of the second period. Cody Hodgson made it 3-1 with a backhand shot at 13:58 of the second.
Krejci wrapped up the scoring at 10:35 of the third period, making the final 4-1 Boston.
The good news for Sabres players and fans alike is that there's only one game remaining. Sunday evening at home against the New York Islanders — a 5 p.m. start.
