Zemgus Girgensons provided the firepower for the Buffalo Sabres tonight, scoring two goals — his seventh and eighth of the season. Unfortunately for the Sabres, the Red Wings scored four.

After the game, Head Coach Ted Nolan called Girgensons the "best player on the ice."

Girgensons got the scoring started 1:31 into the second period with a tip in from Cody Hodgson. The Red Wings tied it at 12:28 of the second on a wrist shot by Brendan Smith.

In the third, Darren Helm made it 2-1 Red Wings with a wrist shot past Sabres goaltender Matt Hackett at 3:33. David Legwand made it 3-1 at 15:46.

Girgensons gave the Sabres life again at 17:49 with a wrist shot past Red Wings net minder Jimmy Howard. Cody Hodson again had the assist, his 24th of the year.

With five seconds to go, Pavel Datsyuk scored an empty netter for Detroit, making it 4-2, where it remained when the final buzzer sounded.

Hackett is now 1-4-1 in six games with Buffalo. He will finish out the last three games of the season as Jhonas Enroth, Michal Neuvirth and Nathan Lieuwen all out due to injury.

The Sabres, now 21-49-9 take on the Rangers in New York on Thursday. They'll be in Boston on Saturday to take on the Bruins and then they wrap up the season on Sunday in Buffalo against the New York Islanders.
