A Hess Road man told Niagara County Sheriff's deputies that an unknown suspect stole about $800 worth of copper cable from his property sometime between April 3 and April 5.

The man told patrol that he didn't immediately report the theft because there was no evidence of who took the wire. He said another robbery involving copper wire had taken place a week prior, but he hadn't reported it.

The complainant told patrol he observed a gray plastic bin — identical to the one the copper wire had been kept in — in a driveway on Fuller Road.

Patrol went to the Fuller Road home and knocked on the front door of the residence for several minutes, with negative results. Deputies then walked in the back yard to see if the residents were out outside in the back of the property. There were not any people in the back yard, but there were several pieces of rubber from copper wiring laying on the grass, around the out door fire pit.

Patrol walked back to the front of the residence and knocked on the front door again. Finally a younger male answered the door and stated, "Are you arresting me?" Patrol explained to the male that there was larceny investigation.

The male told deputies that he didn't know who the gray bin belonged to. When questioned regarding the pieces of rubber from wiring on the grass in the backyard, the male stated that his father is an electrician.

The rubber pieces in the back yard were photographed. The bin was secured and a property receipt was given to the Fuller Road resident. Later in the evening, Patrol responded back to the complainant's home to have him positively identify the grey plastic bin. The complainant located the lid to the bin, which was too large for the grey plastic bin in question. Patrol then brought the grey plastic bin back to the Fuller Road resident.

The investigation is unfounded due to a lack of physical evidence. The complainant was advised to contact Patrol with any new information.
