Someone tried hard to break into a home on Checkered Tavern Road over the weekend. Someone failed.
Niagara County Sheriff's deputies responded to the home Saturday afternoon after it was reported the both exterior door handles had been damaged.
A report by the Niagara County Sheriff's Office said "the unknown suspect(s) attempted to break into the house by damaging the front dead bolt, but was unsuccessful in completely removing the dead bolt. The unknown suspect also damaged the door handle on the attached garage. ... There is also foot print impressions on the door to the attached garage, which appeared that the suspect was attempting to force entry by kicking the door."
Damage to the two doors was estimated at $25.
The investigation will be forwarded to the Criminal Investigation Bureau and patrol will place periodic checks on the residence.
