Niagara County Sheriff's deputies responded to two crime scenes Tuesday in the 6500 block of Lake Road, Appleton.

At the first home, a couple told NCSO around 7:30 a.m. that their unlocked cars had been ransacked. A $500 stereo was removed from one vehicle, while a wallet was stolen from the other.

The complainants told patrol that the theft occurred between 11 p.m. Monday and 6:30 a.m. Tuesday. Found among their scattered belongings was a silver Stanley 14 mm wrench on the driver's seat the male complainant's car. Patrol collected the wrench with a gloved hand and placed it in an evidence bag. The wrench was taken as evidence and submitted to the NCSO lab for possible DNA recovery.

Patrol advised both parties to begin locking their vehicles and residence to prevent further incidents.

About three hours later, another homeowner on Lake Road in Appleton told deputies that his 2002 Polaris ATV, valued at $5,000, was taken from his detached garage sometime between 8 p.m. Monday and 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.

The complainant told that two chain saws were also found outside of the garage that had been inside the garage the previous day. Nothing else was reported to have been taken. Patrol followed a possible set of ATV tire track behind the residence that lead to Phillips Road. At the road a tire track was left in the mud however no tread pattern could be seen. It did not appear that any physical evidence could be collected from the scene.

The complainant told patrol that the overhead garage door had been left unlocked, there was no damage to the garage and that he did not hear any noises during the night. He was advised to begin locking his property overnight to prevent further incidents.
