It may have been chilly out again on Tuesday, but that didn't stop people from enjoying the day around East Niagara. There were people driving around, people walking, people on bikes, people on bikes with snowblowers attached to them ... you just never know what you might see around town.

Contributing photographer Heather N. Grimmer snapped some photos for those of you who were too afraid to come out and play in the snow.

The weather is supposed to take a turn for the better today, getting above freezing for the first time in what surely seems like forever with a high of 40. Thursday will be even warmer, with a forecast high of 44 and rain showers likely. Friday more showers are expected with a high of 46.

The combination of rain and temperatures in the mid- to high 40s will result in greatly increased runoff from rain falling on frozen ground, which may cause flooding of streets and areas of poor drainage, according to the National Weather Service, which has declared a flood watch for Thursday evening through Friday afternoon.

The melting of ice on area creeks will result in an enhanced risk for ice jams and subsequent flooding in flood-prone areas, the weather service added.

Jerry clears a path at the corner of Niagara Street and North Transit Street Tuesday afternoon.
Some toys are buried in the snow Tuesday on South Niagara Street.
Widewaters Marina would be more aptly named "Wide-ice Marina" Tuesday. The long lasting cold weather is about to take a short reprieve, which will result in melting and potential flooding in some areas.
The trees lining Outwater Drive are blanketed in snow from the regular passes of Lockport's snow plows, which have been kept busy this year.
