PHOTOS BY HEATHER N. GRIMMER/CONTRIBUTOR - Niagara County Sheriff's deputies — with the help of New York State troopers — investigate at Crosby's in Gasport where the gas station was held up at knifepoint around 6:30 p.m. The robbery was the second gas station held up by knife today.
Niagara County Sheriff's deputies and New York State troopers are on scene at Crosby's in Gasport, 7952 Rochester Road.

A member of the Niagara County Sheriff's Office takes a coat into evidence
at Crosby's around 7 p.m.
Reports say that at approximately 6:30 p.m., a white male, 5-foot 8-inches and 150 pounds, wearing a mask with holes cut in it for eyes, displayed a knife at the store. He then fled and was seen walking towards the railroad tracks to the north of the store.

The Gasport robbery is the second that Sheriff's deputies responded to in under four hours, as another white male in his early 20s robbed the NOCO station on Transit Road in the Town of Lockport around 3 p.m. before fleeing towards the Woodlands and getting into an unknown white car.

Shortly after the Crosby's robbery, Sheriff's deputies pulled over a white car on Rochester Road in the Town of Lockport, but the driver was questioned and released without incident.

There had been a string of armed robberies at gas stations in Erie and Niagara counties in late December through January. The robberies stopped, however, after Cheektowaga Police arrested two men on Jan. 30.

At least six cars from the Niagara County Sheriff's Office and two from the New York State Police responded to the scene at Crosby's.
