Newfane Free Library's annual writing contest kicked off Monday for kids in preschool through 8th grade.
The contest calls for original stories of at least 100 words but no more than 1,500 words. The library suggests that stories are typed, however handwritten stories will be accepted, providing they're legible.
Stories will be judged on clarity, originality, creativity, exceptionality and story elements. All entries must be submitted to the library no later than Feb. 7.
All stories must be stapled with two entries of the original entry form (at right), a title page and the story itself.
Winners will be asked to read their story aloud at the Young Writers Short Story Contest Celebration on Feb. 27. A copy of each winner's story will be included in the Newfane Free Library's Young Writer's Book Hall of fame.
