A former Medina Memorial Hospital payroll coordinator admitted today to stealing from her employer.
Linda Rakonczay, 58, appeared in U.S. District Court Wednesday to enter guilty pleas on two federal charges - wire fraud and tax fraud.
The hospital sued Rakonczay last February, claiming that over 11 years, she transferred more than more than $400,000 in payroll funds when she was an employee at what is now Orleans Community Health.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Trini E. Ross said the thefts totaled $499,563, beginning in 2001 and continuing through 2012. As part of her guilty plea, Rakonczay has agreed to pay restitution in the amount of $593,563, which includes $94,000 in unpaid federal taxes.
In addition to the restitution, she could face fines of $250,000 and as 20 years in prison for the two felonies.
