A Facebook group is asking that Sonic build one of its proposed eight Western New York restaurants in Lockport.
The group, "We Want Sonic Drive In Restaurant in Lockport NY," has more than 500 members less than 24 hours after being created. The Facebook page lists former Lockport Alderman Tom Grzebinski as its lone administrator.
The popular drive-in, known for its standard fast-food fare and unique drink combinations announced last Monday that it would be adding eight restaurants to Erie and Niagara counties over the next six years. Specific locations, however, were not announced.
The new restaurants will be owned by Erie County businessman Kevin DiPirro, who also owns a number of other franchise restaurants in the area including Moe's Southwest Grill, Cinnabon and Auntie Anne’s Pretzels.
The Buffalo-area locations are expected to have indoor seating in addition to the drive-in slots and drive-thru windows.
