New York State Police confirmed today that human remains were found Sunday in a wooded area in the Town of Lockport.
"A local resident was walking in the wooded area when he came across what he believed to be human bones," according to a press release from New York State Police.
The Bureau of Criminal Investigation responded to the area and confirmed the remains to be human. They believe the remains to belong to have been a male over the age of 50 and think they've likely been in the area for about three years.
Troopers, BCI and Investigators from the Forensic Identification Unit are working with Niagara County Coroner and local police agencies to try and identify the remains.
State Police and the Niagara County Coroner do not suspect foul play at this time, according to the report. They ask that anyone with information about missing persons matching the description to please contact State Police Lockport BCI at 434-5589.
