TOWN OF LOCKPORT -- The Transit Drive-In got approval Tuesday evening from the Town Planning Board to install a fifth movie screen, as well as a new entrance to the drive-in.
Drive-in owner Rick Cohen said the fifth screen "is needed to accommodate extra parking capacity for big summer family movies during our peak business season from mid June to mid-August, when we plan to show the most popular movie on multiple screens to avoid turning families away."
Construction will begin next week with hopes of completion by mid-June -- for the June 17 premiere of Disney Pixar's "Finding Dory."
The new screen will be able to host approximately 220 cars.
Cohen said that the new entrance "is probably as significant of an improvement as adding the fifth screen." It will allow approximately 100 cars to wait for admission off of the always-busy Transit Road, creating "a safer queuing area for vehicles waiting to enter."
The impact on business from construction should be "minimal," Cohen said, since it is in an area which is currently used as farmland.
This weekend's new release at the drive-in is "The Huntsman: Winter's War," a sequel to the 2012 "Snow White and the Huntsman," starring Chris Hemsworth.
