TOWN OF LOCKPORT -- A global restructuring of Yahoo! Inc. will result in about a 15 percent reduction of the workforce at the company's data and calling center here, the company has confirmed to local officials.

The IDA Park location had 208 employees at the end of 2015, which would equate to approximately 30 people losing their jobs at the site.

It's believed that the workforce reduction will be temporary, however, as provisions in Yahoo!s PILOT agreement require 75 employees from the company's first phase and another 115 from its second phase -- for a total of 190 employees by 2019.

The company announced on Feb. 2 that it would implement an “aggressive strategic plan” to simplify itself, which included the approximately 15 percent global workforce reduction. The company employs 9,000 people overall and has approximately 1,000 contractors.
