ALBANY -- Assemblywoman Jane Corwin, R-Clarence, joined Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo (D-Binghamton) and other members of the New York State Legislative Women’s Caucus (LWC) on Monday at a press conference to announce their top priorities for the 2016 State Budget and legislative session.

The priorities result from a poll taken by the bicameral and bipartisan LWC, which currently has 55 members – the highest number of female state legislators in the history of New York State.

“This caucus is proof that, when lawmakers want to come together and work toward a common cause, we are certainly capable of making changes. With 25 percent of the State Legislature represented by women, the voices of women are stronger than ever before in Albany,” said Corwin. “We are working together on these important issues that not only impact women, but all New Yorkers across the state.”

The three priorities chosen by the LWC for their focus this year include increasing After School programming; improving access to quality, affordable child care; and funding for the 100th Anniversary of women’s suffrage. Since the LWC was formed in 1983, the number of female state legislators has risen from 18.
