news@eastniagarapost.com
Lockport's Code Blue is in effect tonight meaning the homeless or those without heat or electricity will be allowed shelter at from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. due to expected cold temperatures overnight.
Those in need of shelter can enter the Salvation Amy, 50 Cottage St. until midnight. Light snacks will be provided.
According to the National Weather Service, the low temperature in Lockport tonight is expected to be approximately 12 degrees -- before taking the wind chill into account. Code Blue is called for whenever the temperature dips below 15 -- including the wind chill factor.
Additionally, the National Weather Service has issued a Lake Effect snow warning from now until 4 p.m. Thursday throughout Niagara, Orleans and Monroe counties -- with the greatest snowfall expected along the Lake Ontario shoreline.
Accumulations of 4 to 8 inches of snow this evening is possible, as is another 2 to 4 inches tonight and 1 to 3 more inches tomorrow, meaning a total accumulation of 7 to 12 inches.
Additionally, winds with gusts of up to 35 mph will lead to poor visibility for drivers to accompany the snow-covered roads.
