Following a nearly one-month break, the Lockport Express return to the ice tonight for a game against Route 31 rivals, the Roc City Royals. The same two teams will also face off Sunday afternoon.
The Express, 11-12-4, sit three points behind Roc City for third place in the NA3EHL Western Conference.
Express Head Coach Frank Vecchio said the team is "looking forward to making a strong playoff push coming out of the holiday break."
The Express' remaining games are almost entirely against fellow Western Conference teams. Following this weekend's games in Rochester, the Express travels to New York to play the New York Aviators. After another two-week break, the team plays four games in four days during the NA3EHL showcase at Cornerstone CFCU Arena. Those games are against Skylands Kings, Cape Code Islanders, and East Coast Minutemen (all of the Eastern Conference) and the Aviators (of the Western Conference). Future games will be played against the Syracuse Stampede on Feb. 6 and 7, the Wilkes Barre Miners on Feb. 12, 13 and 14, the Jersey Shore Wildcats on Feb. 20 and 21, and the Stampede again on March 5 and 6.
Those are all Western Conference teams "... so we control our destiny," Vecchio said. Eleven of the team's 17 remaining games will also be played at Cornerstone Arena.
"We have made a few player acquisitions that we feel will help us on the back end as well as offensively," Vecchio added. " It’s going to be a very exciting few months."
