The Buffalo Sabres fell 3-2 Thursday night to the St. Louis Blues in a shootout.
Alexander Steen netted the game-winner in the shootout, squeezing a shot between Linus Ullmark's left pad and the near post. Ullmark didn't allow a single even-strength goal on the night. And St. Louis didn't have a goal that Steen wasn't involved in.
Kevin Shattenkirk scored the Blues' first goal at 5:34 of the first period, a power play goal assisted by Steen and vladimir Tarasenko.
In the second period, Sam Reinhart scored for the Sabres just 91 seconds into the period. Rasmus Ristolainen and Jack Eichel assisted on the tying goal. St. Louis re-took the lead at 4:26 on a power play goal by Tarasenko, assisted by Steen and David Backes. Ryan O'Reilly tied it for the Blue & Gold at 11:56. Brian Gionta and Matt Moulson assisted.
O'Reilly, Tyler Ennis and Evander Kane were the Buffalo shooters in the shootout.
The Sabres next play the Dallas Stars in Dallas on Saturday.
