Dear Editor:

We are the City of Lockport’s newest residents. We want to tell you why we moved our family to Lockport after living in Lancaster for 22 years. Lisa and I, along with our three children, have gotten to know some great and true friends in Lockport over the past five years and have learned more about this unique, special community as well. We love the genuine people, the amazing homes and neighborhoods, the great cultural organizations – especially The Palace Theatre and the Kenan Center - and we think the restoration of the Flight of Five is amazing. There seems to be a “very real pride” in all things-Lockport. And, cool things to do. Our youngest son has made a habit of riding his bike to Lake Effect Ice Cream several times a week.

So this summer, we found a one-of-a-kind house and we decided to uproot our family and move to the City of Lockport. We’ve been told this doesn’t happen every day – especially when my husband and I both have long-time careers in Buffalo in higher education and healthcare. But we took a chance and did it. We did it because we found an amazing 19th century home nestled among our Lockport friends. And, we’ve seen that our friend, Mayor Anne McCaffrey, has the vision to take this charming historic city and revive it.  We watched Lockport’s news last year with all the financial struggles and saw that she quickly brought Lockport out of the crisis. Moreover, she is taking the steps to make Lockport even greater than it is now. We are really beginning to love this city and are thrilled to be its newest “Lockportians.”

The sense of community and loyalty along with an energized and smart leadership vision can make this a city that we want to live in for many years to come.

What started as friendship with the McCaffrey family has grown into our view of smart leadership.  It will make it easy for us to vote for Mayor McCaffrey this Tuesday.
