A message board shares attendees favorite memories of Whalen.
Seemingly everyone in Lockport was at Market Street Art Studios Sunday afternoon for the opening of "Whalen: A Legacy," the exhibit featuring the works of iconic Lockport artist Joe Whalen.

The guest of honor was fashionably late, arriving to a throng of people at the art center, 247 Market St. The line for one-on-one time and signatures didn't stop from his arrival until he left the studio shortly after 3 p.m.

Lockport Alderman at Large Joe Kibler and Fourth-Ward Alderman Pat Schrader read a proclamation from the mayor's office declaring Sunday through Oct. 15 as "Joe Whalen Day" in Lockport.

The exhibit, which features more than 75 years worth of artistic expression, runs through Nov. 14.
