ENP STAFF REPORTS
news@eastniagarapost.com
BUFFALO — Evander Kane scored a pair of goals for the Buffalo Sabres at First Niagara Center tonight, but they weren't enough to beat the visiting Ottawa Senators.
Kane's goals, which both came in the third period, included a wrist shot, assisted by Ryan O'Reilly at 2:23 and a slapshot at 16:26, assisted by O'Reilly and Tyler Ennis.
Prior to Kane's first goal, though, Ottawa scored three in the second period: Max McCormic on a tip-in from Ryan Dzingel and Tobias Lindberg at 6:00, Alex Chiasson on a snap shot at 7:59 from Matt Puempel and Patrick Mullen, and Zack Stortini on a wrister from Chris Wideman and Colin Greening at 9:26.
The Senators two other goals both came in the third period; Mika Zibanejad had a tip-in from Dzingel and Alex Chiasson at 9:57, and Dzingel scored at 16:56 — just 30 seconds after Kane's second goal. McCormick and Stortini assisted Dzingel's goal.
The Sabres are now 1-1 on the pre-season. They next play the Maple Leafs in Toronto Friday night.
