It's Primary Election Day in East Niagara. Polls are open from noon to 9 p.m. For polling places, check the Niagara County Board of Elections website.
While Lockport's mayoral race has drawn all the attention leading up to today, depending on your political affiliation there are votes to be cast in other city races, as well as in the 11th, 12th, and 13th districts in the Niagara County Legislature and for County Clerk. In Hartland the same three people are running for Town Justice on six different party lines, thanks for New York State's "fusion" voting system. There are also races for county committeemen in the Conservative Party in the Town of Lockport.
The other side of the county is relatively quiet as far as the primary goes. Even Erie County has very little going on today at the polling booths.
The primary is being held on a Thursday this year in order to observe the Jewish holiday of Rosh Hashanah, which begins on Sunday and runs through Tuesday, which was originally to be when the primary would be held. The primary was also moved in 2012, to honor the Sept. 11 attacks.
A list of the local races follows. East Niagara Post will have all the election results this evening as they come in. For breaking news, be sure to download ENP Mobile for Android.
