OSWEGO — A handful of students from East Niagara were among those honored by SUNY Oswego with Deans' and Merit Awards. The Deans' Award scholarships are $6,000 over four years, while the Merit Awards scholarships are $3,000 annually.
Local students honored include:
The awards are part of about $5 million in merit scholarship money offered at SUNY Oswego. These funds are in addition to the more than $80 million in need-based grants, loans, work-study and scholarship awards that SUNY Oswego students receive annually.
A 154-year-old comprehensive college in the State University of New York system, Oswego enrolls about 8,000 students in its College of Liberal Arts and Sciences; School of Business; School of Communication, Media and the Arts; and School of Education.

- Sara J. Costello of Irving Street in Lockport, a freshman majoring in undeclared undergraduate who last studied at Buffalo Academy of Sacred Heart received a Deans' Award.
- Drake D. Arnold of Chase Road in Middleport, a sophomore majoring in business administration who last studied at Albion High School received a Deans' Award.
- James D. Bachman of Haight Road in Barker, a freshman majoring in chemistry who last studied at Barker Central School received a Merit Award.
- Sara R. Meal of North Canal Road in Lockport, a freshman majoring in wellness management who last studied at Royalton-Hartland Central School received a Merit Award.
- Katelyn E. O'Donnell of Park Avenue in Lockport, a freshman majoring in philosophy-psychology who last studied at Lockport High School received a Merit Award.
