ENP STAFF REPORTS
news@eastniagarapost.com
TOWN OF LOCKPORT — The Niagara County Sheriff's Office and AAA are teaming up to hold a free Car Seat Roundup by collecting expired, damaged and unwanted car seats for proper disposal from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at Walmart on South Transit Road.
Child passenger safety technicians will be on hand to provide assistance for parents who need a helping hand.
According to AAA, many unsafe car seats are bought and sold at garage sales, given as hand-me-downs or given to charities for resale. When used correctly, however, child safety seats can reduce fatal injury by up to 71 percent for infants and 54 percent for toddlers, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and safe kids worldwide. When these car seats are reused, it can compromise a child’s safety in the event of a crash.
