A pair of Lockport residents were arrested this afternoon by Lockport police charged with burglary from an abandoned Scovell Street home.

According to LPD, officers were called to the abandoned home by a neighbor reporting suspicious people entering it. Responding officers Heather Glenn, Aaron Belling and Lt. Sal Licata caught two people leaving the home, identified as 22-year-old Essence Hobbs, 329 Michigan St., Apt. 3 and 31-year-old Pernell Hobbs, 142 Grand St.

Police found a pile of copper plumbing that had been removed from the home.

Both were charged with third-degree burglary, while Pernell Hobbs had additional charges of possession of burglar's tools, petit larceny, fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property and second-degree criminal mischief.

Police issued a special thank you to the witnesses who reported the crime on the department's Facebook page.
