Walking in circles might not get you anywhere, but that doesn't mean that progress can't be made.
The fight against cancer takes residency in Lockport Saturday afternoon through to Sunday morning as the 15th annual Relay for Life returns to the track at Emmett Belknap Intermediate School.
Registration -- and all that walking -- starts at 2 p.m., as does the first of several entertainment acts -- Doublewide. Entertainment continues at 3:30 p.m. with Mr. Max, followed by the introduction of the Miss Relay contestants at 5:45 p.m.
With opening ceremonies at 6 p.m. things officially begin to heat up. Mike Hartman and the Good Ol’ Boys go on at 7 and the Paint the Community Purple awards will be held at 8:15, followed by Cold Shot at 8:30, a luminaria ceremony at 10, the crowning of Miss Relay at 10:45, Commie Hunters at 11, Reunion and midnight, Zumba with Theresa Werth at 5 a.m. and then closing ceremonies at 6 a.m.
As in years passed, there will be themed laps to keep things entertaining. There's a survivor lap at 6 p.m. to coincide with opening ceremonies, followed by Roaring 20s at 7:30 p.m., Power of Purple at 8 p.m., an Uncle Sam Salute at 8:30 p.m., Ballroom Attire lap at 9 p.m., honorary survivors at 10 p.m., a glow lap at 11 p.m., rock and roll at 11:30 p.m., pajama party at midnight, psychedelic age at 12:30, disco fever at 1 a.m., hip hop at 1:30 a.m., crazy socks at 2 a.m., a hat lap at 2:30 a.m., age of sports at 3 a.m., a twin lap at 3:30 a.m., relay today at 4 a.m., a coffee lap at 4:30 a.m., and a wake up relay at 5 a.m.
There is still time to register as an individual or a team. It can be done online at www.relayforlife.org/lockportny or on site from 2 and 6 p.m. Saturday.
