East Niagara Post columnist Jay Berent is one of five WNY writers nominated as the "Best Local Writer" in the 2015 Artvoice "Best of Buffalo" awards.

Berent's weekly "Fork in the Road" column highlights local food each Saturday morning, often pitting local restaurants against chains.
Berent, who is also a writer for Visions Comics and has written a few independent films, said he's unsure of what exactly got him the nomination this year.

"A few people told me they 'love' my ENP articles and read them weekly," Berent said. "I know they voted. It was really a shock."

Berent was nominated in the "Best Local Writer" category in 2014, as well.

Other East Niagara nominees in the annual award showcase include the Transit Drive-In for "Best Movie Theater," Lake Effect Ice Cream for "Best Ice Cream" and Niagara County Produce Lockport for "Best Produce."

The award winners will be announced at the Best of Buffalo Party, at 6 p.m May 18 at the Town Ballroom.
