The Normpac fire is the second at the cardboard plant in seven months.
NIAGARA FALLS — A fire at the Norampac Industries facilities on Packard Road and Royal Avenue has called for assistance from fire companies across Niagara County — including East Niagara — for the second time in seven months.

Fire apparatus from the Niagara Falls Fire Department is being assisted by a tanker from Wolcottsville, and crews from Cambria, South Wilson, Lewiston 2, Sanborn, Youngstown, Frontier and Niagara Active; while crews from Wrights Corners, Grand Island, Pekin, Ransomville, and Lewiston 1 were called to standby at other local departments.

The cardboard fire, which was reported to the Niagara Falls Fire Department at about 2:20 p.m., was reportedly attended to much more quickly than one that occurred on Sept. 20. That blaze burned for days, reigniting numerous times due to high winds.

There have not been any reported injuries and there has been no report on expectations of when the fire might be contained.
