CAMBRIA — A Newfane woman was uninjured Friday evening despite her car catching on fire while she was driving on Ridge Road in Cambria.
The 19-year-old Ewings Road resident told Niagara County Sheriff's deputies that she had noticed a squeaking noise coming from the front driver side wheel well while driving home. She then began to see smoke coming from the area of the wheel well.
The woman said she pulled over to the side of the road to try to find the cause of the smoke. A passerby stated he then called 911 after he observed a small fire in the area of the wheel well. The woman exited the vehicle without incident and stood by with the passerby.
Cambria Vol. Fire Co. was dispatched and arrived on scene, where firefighters used a fire extinguisher to put out a small fire in the area of the wheel well prior to patrol's arrival.
No injuries were reported at the scene. Cambria Vol. Fire Co. stated the cause of the fire was unknown at the time. The extent of the damage to the vehicle is unknown at this time.
The car was towed.
