ENP STAFF REPORTS
news@eastniagarapost.com
NEWFANE — Newfane Middle School will be the site for the Niagara Regional PTA Spelling Bee Saturday.
Fourth- and fifth-grade students from Niagara and Orleans counties ― plus Grand Island and Tonawanda — will be competing for bragging rights in the regional championships. Competing schools this year include Anna Merrit, Emmet Belknap, George Southard and Roy B. Kelley from Lockport, Huth Road and William Kaegebein from Grand Island, Newfane, Royalton-Hartland, Starpoint, Tonawanda Central and Wilson Elementary.
The competing school PTAs held their own spelling bees in January and February, choosing first-, second- and third-place winners to represent them in the regional bee.
Registration begins at 9 a.m. for fourth-graders, who will begin spelling at 10 a.m. Fifth-graders will register at noon with a 1 p.m. scheduled start to their bee.
