Dillon Hayes, the NA3EHL co-offensive player of the week, added three points to his season total Friday night as the Lockport Express beat the New Hampshire Fighting Spirit by a 3-2 score.
Hayes now has 17 goals and 15 assists in 30 games played for Lockport's Junior A team.
The victory by the Express also assured the team home advantage for at least one playoff series for the 2014-2015 season.
New Hampshire got the first point of the game, a Simon Campbell goal assisted by Alex Peddle at 12:45 of the first period. Their lead was short-lived, however, as Ryan Logar scored for the Express at 13:11, assisted by Hayes.
The middle period had just one goal, scored by Hayes at 18:34, with assists by Peter Guido and Frank Vecchio Jr.
Jordan Pocobello made it 3-1 Lockport at 13:12 of the third period with Hayes getting another assist. Peddle brought New Hampshire back into the game with a goal at 17:14 of the third, assisted by Frederic Pugin, but it was too little, too late.
Express goaltender Ryan Kostelnik stopped 32 of 34 shots in his first full game with the team. He had finished out the game Sunday when backup goaltender Giancarlo Muglia was injured. Head Coach Frank Vecchio hopes to have Muglia back in the lineup before the season's end.
Despite the Express winning the game, New Hampshire players were awarded all three stars — Adam Higdon, Peddle, and Mike Callaghan.
The 23-9-1 Express play the 25-5-1 Fighting Spirit again at noon on Sunday.
