TOWN OF LOCKPORT — A Newfane woman left her cell phone in the women's restroom at Walmart only to find it was taken when she returned a few minutes later.

The Walmart employee told Niagara County Sheriff's deputies that she set the phone down while she was on break around 5 p.m. When she noticed it missing about 20 minutes later, she returned to the bathroom where she had left it, but it was gone.

Patrol reviewed the security footage at Walmart in attempt to find a potential suspect. It was determined that the phone was taken between 4:40 p.m. and 5:02 p.m. Two females were seen on security tapes entering and leaving the bathroom during that time frame.

A white female went in and left the bathroom at 4:45 p.m. and did nothing suspicious while exiting or in the store. An African American female entered and exited the bathroom at 5:02 p.m. and while exited was fumbling around with something in her hands and putting it her pockets. The female then wandered around the store and exited at 5:06 p.m. The female then went to a vehicle in the parking lot and got in before returning to Walmart for a short time then went back to the vehicle and left. Patrol secured a still frame of this female, but has not yet made it available.

The complainant said the individual picture looked familiar but she was not able to identify the individual. She was unable to provide patrol with any further information or potential suspects in regards to the incident. Patrol attempted to call the stolen phone but there was no service to it.

The investigation will continue and NCSO said the still image of the potential suspect will be posted later for possible identification.
