ENP STAFF REPORTS
news@eastniagarapost.com
TOWN OF LOCKPORT — Thieves removed catalytic converters from two cars at a South Transit Road garage, according to the Niagara County Sheriff's Office.
A report filed Sunday states that the owner of South Niagara Motors, 6400 S. Transit St., had reported the thefts Thursday. The garage mechanic then told patrol that while he was moving a 2004 Hyundai Sonata into the garage to be worked on, he noticed a loud noise that hadn't existed before. He said when he got the vehicle onto the lift, he discovered the source of the loud noise because the catalytic converter was missing from the vehicle. The staff of the garage then checked the rest of the cars on the lot and found found that a second catalytic converter was missing from a 2000 Chevrolet Venture. In all, the loss was listed as $1,200.
There is video surveillance, which the owner said he would review and contact patrol. Also, a black leather tool case, possibly used for a jack handle, was found on top of a vehicle that was parked near the Hyundai Sonata, and turned this property over to patrol. Patrol turned it in for further processing.
The investigation is continuing pending new information.
