ENP STAFF REPORTS
news@eastniagarapost.com

The National Weather Service has issued a "special weather statement" concerning a heavy lake effect snow band which will impact the Buffalo metro area and northtowns including southern Niagara County.

The snow band, which is capable of producing two inches of snow per hour, is expected to pass over Pendleton, South Lockport, Rapids and Wolcottsville. It will reduce visibility to a quarter of a mile or less, according to the weather service. Additionally, winds of 20 to 30 mph and snowfall will create areas of blowing and drifting snow.

"This band will continue to drift northward" into East Niagara "and weaken through early this afternoon." It will have little if any impact on the evening commute, the weather service says.

"Driving within this snow band will be difficult at times, with snow-covered and slippery roadways," according to the alert. "If traveling across the area, slow down and be prepared for rapidly changing road and weather conditions."

The "special weather statement" is in effect until 12:30 p.m.
