NEWFANE — A man was taken by ambulance to Erie County Medical Center this evening following a crash in the 3700 block of Coomer Road.

Wrights Corners Fire and Rescue responded to the crash scene where they found a car had gone off the east side of the road, traveling hundreds of feet and smashing into a parked van with such force that it lifted the van up off the ground and buried its nose underneath it.

Emergency responders provided immediate life support to the driver, who was then taken by Olcott advance life support to ECMC because Mercy Flight could not fly due to the weather.

The accident remains under investigation by the Niagara County Sheriff's Office.

The car suffered severe damage in the crash. The cause remains under investigation.
