TAMPA — The Buffalo Sabres went into Amalie Arena having won their last three games and six of their last seven. They ended the night being convincingly beat by one of the best teams in the NHL, 5-0.
The Tampa Bay Lightning got on the board early with a Nikita Kucherov tip in of a Radko Gudas shot at 2:33 of the first period. Tyler Johnson also assisted on the goal.
Tampa added three more goals in the second, first by Steven Stamkos — a wrist shot at 4:28, assisted by Ryan Callahan and Alex Killorn. Brenden Morrow made it 3-0 at 4:28, assisted by Ryan Callahan and Killorn. Then at 13:40, Jason Garrison slapped a shot past Jhonas Enroth, assisted by Stamkos and Andrej Sustr.
The third period was short on goals but had 116 minutes in penalties, including four fighting majors and six game misconducts. The one goal that was scored was a power play goal at 18:55 by Brett Connolly, assisted by Valtteri Filppula and Stamkos.
The Sabres next play Saturday against the Florida Panthers.
