HARTLAND — A 57-year-old Barker man was charged Wednesday DWI and drinking alcohol while driving on Ridge Road.

According to a New York State Police report, Troopers spotted the vehicle on Ridge Road and observed the vehicle cross the center line, after having received a report that a man had been consuming alcohol while driving in the area.

Stefan M. Kowalyk exhibited signs of intoxication and failed field sobriety tests when the vehicle was stopped on Hartland Road, according to the NYSP report. He was transported to the Lockport Trooper's barracks and found to have a blood alcohol content of .12 percent.

Kowalyk was transported to SP Lockport for processing and a BAC level of .12% was recorded. He was also evaluated by a drug recognition expert and it was determined that Kowalyk was also under the influence of drugs.

He was charged with driving while intoxicated, driving while intoxicated/drugs, failure to keep right and operating a motor vehicle while consuming alcohol. Kowalyk is scheduled to appear in the Town of Hartland Court on Dec. 16.

  1. The facts in this report does not match the information on the tickets. I have seen them myself. The drugs in question were prescribed and he had only taken 1 pill due to the fact he had just left the pharmacy.
