ENP STAFF REPORTS

NEWFANE — A Lockport-Olcott Road woman told Niagara County Sheriff's deputies that someone opened the enclosure for her dogs, allowing them to be hit by a car.
The woman said that someone opened the enclosure between 7 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Sunday. As a result of the incident, the dogs, two female beagle mixes, were able to get out of their enclosure and were subsequently hit and killed by a vehicle a short distance north of the residence.
The woman said she believes the unknown person let the dogs out on purpose, but could not provide any suspects.
Patrol told her that a report would be on file with NCSO. Patrol also said that it appeared that the dogs, themselves, could have created the opening by continually pushing on the fence and pulling the corner away from the garage.
The case is considered closed pending further information.

It is entirely possible those beagles opened that gate themselves. I have 2 and we had to put an additional bungee on the gate to keep it closed. We have also had to reinforce closures on kitchen cabinets. Beagles are notorious escape artists. I am so sorry you lost your babies.
