TOWN OF LOCKPORT — The Transit Drive-In Theatre has entered into a contract to purchase the 8 acre parcel of property adjacent to their south property line, comprising roughly 250 feet of undeveloped frontage on South Transit Road.

Drive-in owner Rick Cohen said there are no immediate plans for development or expansion of the drive-in itself. The property will be used as a sort of buffer zone, at least for the time being.

"Our long-term goal is to ensure that the quality of the drive-in experience is preserved by minimizing any potential detrimental impact to the surrounding environment," he said via a post on the drive-in Facebook page on Tuesday. "Our commitment to exceeding the expectations of our guests knows no boundaries."

"Currently the property is being farmed, it's going to continue to be farmed for agriculture," he added this afternoon by phone.

The Transit Drive-In was built in 1952, and has been operated by three generations of the Cohen family since 1957. Opened as a single screen, it has expanded over the years to four screens, and is one of the approximately 350 drive-in theatres still operating in the United States.
