Police looked through bushes in front of Lockview Plaza.
A 26-year-old Lockport man ran from Lockport police following a traffic stop downtown late Wednesday morning.

Eric M. Sobers was being stopped by police when he jumped out of his car and fled around 11:30 a.m., according to police.

Sobers ran from the canal-side of Lockview Plaza, where he had parked, through the plaza to the Main Street side. He then fled east across Pine Street, through the new city parking lot and up the hill to the other half of that lot.

Police had reinforcements by that time, however, and he was captured on Main Street.

Police searched the bushes in front of Lockview Plaza, as well as the grass near the Pine Street parking lot, thinking that Sobers may have ditched something while he was trying to ditch police. Nothing was found immediately, however.

Sobers only faces traffic charges for the time being, according to LPD. The car he was driving was also towed from the scene.

The car that Eric Sobers had been driving was towed after his arrest.
