ENP STAFF REPORTS
news@eastniagarapost.com
Niagara County Auxiliary Police are holding an open house and recruitment drive from 1-4 p.m. on Nov. 1 and 2.
The open house will be held at the Public Safety Training Facility, 5574 Niagara St. Ext, next to the Niagara County Sheriff's Office.
NCAP Chief Bryan Barish said the open house is "geared around people that may be interested in volunteering to serve the community as an auxiliary police officer or people that are looking for law enforcement career and would like some experience prior to that."
Barish said attendees will be able to explore the opportunities and learn the qualifications and time commitments of auxiliary police officers. There will be tours of the building and vehicles. Uniforms and police equipment will be on display.
Those who join will be "given all their uniform clothing articles needed," Barish said. "They'll be given in-house auxiliary police training academy. And they'll receive a New York State certified peace officer academy at no charge."
Niagara County Auxiliary Police officers must be 21 by the time they graduate from the academy. They must have a valid New York state driver's license and high school diploma or GED. They must be able to pass a physical exam, drug test and mental health exam, among other requirements.
