NEWFANE — A Chestnut Road man told Niagara County Sheriff's deputies that sometime early Sunday morning, someone damaged a door on his garage and stole his canoe.
The man told police that at approximately 3 a.m., someone came to the man door at the front of the garage, kicked the door causing damage, swore and ran off in an unknown direction. After the incident, he came out of the garage to investigate but didn't find anything out of the ordinary. He noticed that his 16-foot red Coleman canoe was still at the side of the garage at that time, however, it missing at approximately 8:30 a.m.
Patrol interviewed neighbors and checked the yard and several outbuildings, but found no sign of the canoe. The case is considered closed pending new information.
