GRAND ISLAND — The DeSales Knights swim team were pushed to the limit by St. Stephens Sunday, but with double event wins by Jack Strong, Delaney Adams, and Isabel Treanor, and a sweep of the free relays, the Knights walked away from Grand Island HS with a 123-117 team victory.
For the 8 and unders, Jack Strong has been a force in the pool. Strong won both the 100 IM and 25 fly and set the tone for the older divisions to follow by making a come from behind swim as the anchor of the 100 Free Relay and touching out a St Stephens swimmer. This incredible swim changed the tone of the meet and took the momentum away from St Stephens and fired up the Knights for the remaining two relay races.
The 9-10 division recorded wins by Aidan Morgan in the 100 IM, Elizabeth Kershaw in the 50 backstroke, and Gracie Cordle in the 50 breaststroke. The 200 Free Relay of Madison Fragale, Grace Buzak, Gracie Cordle, and Aidan Morgan dominated in the pool and won the event by over a lap and a half over St Stephens top relay in that event.
The 11 and older division keeps getting stronger and stronger with stellar swims by Delaney Adams who won the 50 breaststroke and 50 freestyle, and Isabel Treanor in the 100 and 200 freestyle. Individual wins were also recorded by Sam Murphy in the 200 IM, Mark Crocker in the 50 butterfly, and Sarah Mullane in the 50 backstroke. The 200 Free Relay of Isabel Treanor, Sam Murphy, Mark Crocker, and Sarah Mullane capped off the sweep of the Free Relays and secured the team victory.
The Knights have a bye coming into this weekend and return back to the pool to face St. Christopher at Sweet Home High School on Oct. 5.
