A Niagara County Sheriff's Office marked patrol car was involved in an injury accident at the intersection of North Transit and Main streets around 11:26 a.m.
According to the NCSO report, the deputy was south bound on North Transit Street, operating with overhead lights and siren on, enroute to an assault in progress call in the Town of Lockport, while a vehicle operated by William Higgs, 74, of Jupiter, Fl. was westbound on Main Street.
As the deputy's vehicle entered the intersection, he observed other vehicles stopped in traffic due to his emergency lights and siren activated. The vehicle Higgs was operating went around a stopped vehicle in front of him and entered the intersection striking the deputy's vehicle.
The deputy was transported to Eastern Niagara Hospital-Lockport by Lockport Fire Department. He was subsequently treated and released for minor injuries.
Higgs was not injured and was cited at scene for failure to yield for emergency vehicle.
