ENP STAFF REPORTS

The greased pole competition is young, as far as Niagara County Fair traditions go, but in its short lifespan, it's gained in popularity among participants and viewers each year. It takes place at 8 p.m.

Teams can consist of up to 10 people. Once the contest begins, one member of a team must be off the ground at all times. No belts or any means of attaching team members to the pole are allowed. No spiked footgear is allowed. All members of a team must be over the age of 18 and must sign a hold harmless agreement. Proof of age must be presented when registering for the contest.

The winning teams will be determined by the amount of time it takes to ring a bell fastened to the top of the pole. There is a three minute time limit on each climb. Teams may register by completing an entry form which is available at Cornell Cooperative Extension of Niagara County Administration Office. Teams may register up to 2 hours before the contest takes place. The winning team will be awarded a cash prize of $100.
