A Pendleton man was charged with shoplifting Sunday after Facebook fans of the Niagara County Sheriff's Office identified him for NCSO.

According to the arrest report, a man later identified as Nicholas D. Johnson, 31, 6925 Campbell Blvd., attempted to purchase some items at Walmart around 9:54 pm. on Friday but his credit card was declined. Johnson attempted five different times, but each time the transaction was denied.

During that time period, his wife walked out of the store with the shopping cart full of merchandise. The female cashier told Johnson that he would have to bring the merchandise back in the store. Although, when he walked outside the store in order to retrieve the merchandise from his vehicle, he did not return.

NCSO upoaded pictures of the suspects onto the Niagara County Sheriff's Office Facebook page, requesting for assistance identifying the suspects. Patrol received several emails in response to the request, which led to identifying the male as Johnson.

When patrol went to Johnson's home on Sunday to interview him, he originally claimed there was a misunderstanding and he didn't mean to steal the items, believing that the transaction may have gone through. He eventually admitted to knowing the transaction wasn't approved but said the cashier never told him to return the merchandise.

He was issued an appearance ticket for Town Court on Aug. 14 to answer to the charge of petit larceny.
