HARTLAND — Two Gasport men accused each other of trying to run each other off the road on Sunday. In the end, one of them was charged with the crime.
Niagara County Sheriff's deputies were dispatched around 4 p.m. Sunday to Kerwin Road where an 18-year-old Hartland Road man told them that he was southbound on Hosmer Road with a female passenger when they noticed 43-year-old Michael P. Wolf following them in a older model blue Ford pickup truck.
While traveling west on Kerwin Road, Wolf was tailgating them and struck their vehicle from behind according to the complaint report, which added that after turning south onto Bishop Road, Wolf struck the passenger side of his vehicle, trying to run them off the road. Wolf then got in front of them and started to swerve back and forth. He then slammed on his brakes and the teen ran into the back of Wolf's vehicle.
At this time, the complainants stated they were able to get around Wolf and continue west. Both vehicles then got to Dale Road and Lockport-Olcott Road and Wolf sped off on Lockport-Olcott Road.
Patrol observed damage to the back end of the complainant's vehicle, heavy damage to the passenger side near the front wheel, damage to the front bumper, and damage to the rear driver side panel of the vehicle. The complainants both stated that they know Wolf and both confirmed that it was him operating the vehicle, an older blue Ford pickup truck with a Wolfpack fencing logo on the driver side of the truck.
Around 7 p.m. Sunday, NCSO received a call from Wolf, 8968 Rochester Road, Gasport, who said that he wanted to report a property damage accident that happened on Kerwin Road. He said that he was on his way to install a fence in Ransomville when he got into a road rage incident in which another vehicle tried to run him off the road. He said the other driver struck his vehicle near the front passenger side wheel causing damage to the panel and to his bumper.
Patrol observed Wolf's truck in the driveway and it was older Ford pickup truck with a Wolfpack fencing logo on the driver side door.
Wolf told patrol that he called NCSO and State Police to report the incident but there was no record of him calling NCSO or State Police found. He said that patrol was welcome to look through his phone to confirm his story, but again, patrol was unable to find an entry in his phone of him contacting NCSO or State Police.
He was placed into custody and charged with third-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving, driving on the shoulder of a roadway, moving from a lane unsafely, leaving the scene of a property damage accident, and following too closely. He was remanded to the Niagara County Jail with a $500 bail. He is set to appear in the Town of Hartland Court today to answer the charges.
