WRIGHTS CORNERS — Apparently it was taco night.
A Lake Avenue man was charged early this morning with shoplifting from the Tops on Lockport-Olcott Road.
Curtis T. Cogar of 4120 Lake Ave., was seen by Tops employees shortly before 3:30 a.m. putting items underneath his jacket into the waist band of his jeans. Employees called the Niagara County Sheriff's Office while Cogar was still in the store.
Patrol waited for Cogar, 23, and another male he was with to exit the business. Patrol observed a bulge underneath Cogar's jacket and discovered that he was in possession of a one-pound package of ground beef, a bag of shredded cheddar cheese, and a bag of flour tortilla shells, according to the NCSO arrest report. The items, which totaled $11.03, were returned to the grocery store.
Cogar was placed under arrest for petit larceny and fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property and remanded to the custody of Niagara County Jail where he was held on $250 bail. He is scheduled to appear in the Town of Newfane Court on Tuesday.
