While opening ceremonies are still about an hour away, Lockport's annual Relay for Life at Emmet Belknap started with the Survivor Celebration at 2 p.m.

Scores of participants, vendors and watchers are at the school to take part in the annual fight against cancer.

"Surviving Suburbia" got the music started at 2 p.m. before handing the main stage off to "Just Us," who performed until 4:30 p.m. They were followed by "Pop's Circle of Friends,"who are to perform until 5:45 when Miss Relay is introduced to the crowd.

Special themed laps will be held every half hour, starting with the survivor, caregiver and team laps at 6 p.m. They will be followed by "Grand Old Flag," at 7:30 p.m. "Power of Purple," "American Heroes," and "Shoot the Stars," the "Glow Lap" at 11 p.m., "Trick or Treat," "PJ Party," "Liberty Lap," "SunShine," "Muscle Up to Cancer," "School Spirit," "Crazy Hat/Wig," "Proud to be an American," "Sock it to Cancer," "Go USA!," the "Coffee Lap" at 4:30 a.m. and "Wake up Relay" at 5 a.m.

Other musical acts to take main stage include "Rock Angel" at 7 p.m. and the "CRS Band" at 8:30 p.m. Also taking place on the main stage are the "Paint the City Purple" awards at 8:15 p.m., the Luminaria Ceremony at 10 p.m., the Miss Relay awards at 10:45 p.m.

The movie "Frozen" will be shows at 1 a.m. and karaoke will take place at 3 a.m. The event concludes at 6 a.m. but not before Zumba with Theresa Werth at 5 a.m.
