ENP STAFF REPORTS
news@eastniagarapost.com
Niagara County Sheriff's deputies recovered several items that had been removed from grave sites at Cold Springs Cemetery this morning.
According to the report filed, patrol was flagged down by a woman who said that she had observed another female taking items. Patrol then found the woman who was acting "highly irrational, appeared sad and disoriented."
The woman admitted to patrol that she had taken items from grave sites. Patrol then looked in the back of her vehicle and saw numerous things normally left at grave sites in the back seat. The woman admitted to taking all of the items that were in the vehicle.
Patrol asked her to return the items to where she had taken them from and she said she could not because it would take too much time. Patrol then removed all of the items from the vehicle. There appeared to be multiple different types of items, including garden gnomes, ceramic outdoor religious items, multiple different types of flowers, plastic birds, colored ceramic eggs, t-shirts, wristbands, notes, and Bibles. Patrol finally secured all the items in a cemetery location to be sorted through later by their owners or cemetery staff.
The woman was transported by Rural Metro for a mental health evalution, according to the report. Her son was called to secure her vehicle and dog, which was on scene with her.
The report said that NCSO will follow up with the case at a later time, when the items owners could be contacted.
